Romney Claims He Won’t Release Tax Returns Because of LDS Donations
After remarking that the “Obama organization” wouldn’t be satisfied with just two years of returns (never mind that citizens would also like to know), Romney said:
“Our church doesn’t publish how much people have given. This is done entirely privately. One of the downsides of releasing one’s financial information is that this is now all public, but we had never intended our contributions to be known. It’s a very personal thing between ourselves and our commitment to our God and to our church.”
So it’s not that Romney is worried that citizens may find out he paid 0-13% in taxes…it’s that he doesn’t want everyone to know how generous he’s been.
